Autism

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a group of brain development disorders that includes autism, Rett Syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, pervasive developmental disorder and Asperger Syndrome.

The most obvious signs and symptoms of autism (such as difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors) tend to emerge between ages two and three. Early diagnosis and early intervention with demonstrated behavioral therapies can improve outcomes.

The following resources provide support, services and information for individuals who have an autism spectrum disorder, or have a household member with autism.  The EAP can assist by providing support, and referring to appropriate community resources or an internal specialist.
